Art. 16e Zootechnische Massnahmen

1 Zootechnische Eingriffe sind auf ein Minimum zu beschränken. Sie müssen durch qualifiziertes Personal im dafür am besten geeigneten Alter der Tiere ausgeführt werden.

2 Das Beschneiden von Schwänzen und Zähnen sowie von Schnäbeln, Zehen und Flügeln beim Geflügel, das Kapaunisieren, die Enthornung von adulten Tieren sowie die Verwendung von Nasenringen und das Einsetzen von Klammern und Drähten in die Rüsselscheibe bei Schweinen sind nicht zulässig.100

2bis In begründeten Fällen zulässig ist die Enthornung von adulten Tieren aus Sicherheitsgründen, sofern sie vom Tierarzt oder der Tierärztin fachgerecht unter Anästhesie und nicht während der Monate Mai, Juni, Juli und August durchgeführt wird.101

3 Bei einzelnen Tieren dürfen folgende Eingriffe vorgenommen werden:

a.
das Anbringen von Gummibändern an Schwänzen von Schafen, falls dies zur Verbesserung der Gesundheit, des Wohlbefindens oder der Hygiene der Tiere erforderlich ist;
b.102
die Enthornung von Jungtieren, mit Ausnahme von Yaks, Wasserbüffeln und Bisons, unter Betäubung, falls dies aus Sicherheitsgründen notwendig ist;
c.103
die Kastration zur Sicherstellung der Qualität der Erzeugnisse.

Art. 16e Zootechnical measures

1 Zootechnical procedures shall be kept to the minimum. They must be carried out by qualified personnel at the age most appropriate for the animal.

2 Procedures such as docking tails, clipping teeth and, in the case of poultry, beaks, toes and wings, castration, the dehorning of adult animals and the use of nose rings and the fitting of clips and wires in the nose ring for pigs is not permitted.100

2bis In justified cases, the dehorning of adult animals for safety reasons is permitted, provided that it is conducted properly under anaesthetic by a veterinary surgeon and not during the months of May, June, July and August.101

3 The following procedures may be carried out on individual animals:

a.
attaching elastic bands to the tails of sheep, if this is necessary to improve the health, welfare or hygiene of the livestock;
b.102
dehorning of young animals, except for yaks, water buffalo and bison, under anaesthetic, if this is necessary for reasons of safety;
c.103
castration in order to maintain the quality of products.
