1 Werden in erheblichem Mass biogene Treib- und Brennstoffe oder Gemische, die biogene Treib- und Brennstoffe enthalten, in Verkehr gebracht, welche die Anforderungen nach Artikel 12b Absätze 1 und 3 des Mineralölsteuergesetzes vom 21. Juni 199682 nicht erfüllen, so kann der Bundesrat vorsehen, dass von ihm bezeichnete biogene Treib- und Brennstoffe nur in Verkehr gebracht werden dürfen, wenn sie bestimmte ökologische oder soziale Anforderungen erfüllen.
2 Von der Zulassungspflicht ausgenommen ist Ethanol zu Brennzwecken.
3 Der Bundesrat legt unter Berücksichtigung der Bestimmungen der Mineralölsteuergesetzgebung fest:

Dez. 2019 über die Verlängerung der Befristung der Steuererleichterungen für Erdgas, Flüssiggas und biogene Treibstoffe und über die Änderung des Bundesgesetzes über die Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen, in Kraft vom 1. Juli 2020 bis zum 31. Dez. 2023 (AS 2020 1269; BBl 2019 5679 5813).
1 If a substantial volume of biogenic motor and thermal fuels or mixtures that contain biogenic motor and thermal fuels that do not meet the requirements of Article 12b paragraphs 1 and 3 of the Mineral Oil Tax Act of 21 June 199682 are put into circulation, the Federal Council may provide that certain biogenic motor and thermal fuels that it designates may only be put into circulation if they meet specific ecological or social requirements.
2 Ethanol used for thermal purposes is exempted from the authorisation requirement.
3 The Federal Council shall stipulate the following, taking account of the provisions of the legislation on the mineral oil tax:
